In 2011, I visited Peru and enjoyed its overcast and crowded capital, Lima, with its many museums, historical convents, churches and buildings. The southern city of Arequipa appeared stunning against a backdrop of snow-covered volcanoes and rivers. Near Bolivia, I traveled to Puno, a marvelous city by the shores of Lake Titicaca. At Puno, the night sky seems closer than usual and the stars appear within reach. Spending a night with a local family on an island on Lake Titicaca was an excellent opportunity to interact with the Quechua locals. Finally, Cuzco and its surrounding towns remain a living testament to its past Incan civilization, with a people very much connected to their roots and way of life.
